McREL Rural E-News
Special Edition
March 10, 2004

Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) invites applications for small grants to fund the development of detailed research designs that will expand and enhance the state of rural education research. The purpose of this RFP is to stimulate rural research addressing educational issues specific to schools in rural settings, especially as they relate to the implementation of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.

The size of the award for research design development depends on the proposed scope of the design, but awards will typically range from $1,000 to $5,000. Proposals for higher awards will be considered. Submission from a team of researchers is welcomed.

McREL intends to assist researchers who complete designs in getting the research funded. McREL does not guarantee funding of the project itself once the design phase is concluded. However, the possibility of future funding from McREL, or its support to obtain other funding, exists.

Application deadline is May 1, 2004 with notification of funding by June 1, 2004. The project period is June 1, 2004 to October 1, 2004.
